LongTale Publishing in association with the Read3Zero Foundation is now offering a yearly opportunity for children between grades 3rd through 8th to be published in a Short-Story anthology entitled: “I Write: Short Stories By Kids, For Kids!”

Calling All Authors and Artists!

This is a great opportunity for children who have dreamed of seeing their own story or artwork professionally published in a book.  First round short story and book cover design submissions will be accepted through February 1st 2010.  Once the Finalists are announced, they will have until May 1st 2010 to resubmit their edited revisions and final copy of their short story and/or artwork for the book cover.   Grand Prize Winners will be announced by September 1st 2010 and published in the 2010 Anthology.  All winners will receive one complimentary copy of the anthology.

RULES and REQUIREMENTS:

Stories will be divided into age categories/genre.  Stories must fit between 1,000 and 1,500 word-count requirements.   Stories may be typed or neatly hand written.  Each story will be judged on creativity, correct word usage, and will take into account whether the writer includes a setting, at least one main character, story plot (beginning, middle, and end), conflict, climax, and resolution.  LongTale Publishing promotes positive values and lessons within its stories, so students will be encouraged to (please) use proper judgment when writing and developing their stories.

* Be sure to edit your work before you submit your final copy!  Finalists’ stories will be judged by professional authors and founders of the Read3Zero Foundation–Melissa M. Williams & Bobby Ozuna– and will be professionally edited by the staff at LongTale Publishing. Finalists will have critiques sent home for final drafting/editing by the author prior to publication!*

All stories must be written in English. If the story is hand-written, but not legible, it will not be considered for publication.

Eligibility:                       All students, grades 3~8, at the time of submission (Feb/2010)

Stories MUST include the following:

Setting: Where the story takes place

Main Character: Who the story is about

Plot: An order of events that take place through out the story

Conflict: A struggle the main character is trying to overcome

Climax: The most exciting point of the story / something is about to change

Resolution: The way the character fixes their problem at the end of the story

    Melissa,

Thank you for offering an authentic reason for children to write. I think this contest will motivate many young authors to get their creativity on paper.

As a mother and a teacher I know you are inspiring many young writers.

    Thank you,
    Mrs.V

Kids are never too young to be published. :O) I would love for you to spread the word around to any other teachers and students who may be interested in using this contest to share their creativity too!

      Blessings,
